AT the age of 20, Shequana Holder coveted the title of Miss Guyana Culture Queen (MGCQ) 2024 and soon she will set to the regional stage to represent her homeland in St. Kitts and Nevis come August.
Hailing from the mighty Essequibo region, Shequana is no stranger to the local pageant scene and during an interview with this week’s Buzz, the young woman gave a sneak peak into her journey for the crown she holds and the one she has set her sights on for the upcoming Caribbean Culture Queen pageant.

“It was not different from the rest of pageants that I would have done, but I would say that it was more like a fun experience, and I did meet some young ladies that we shared similar passions,” she said while reflecting preparations for the Miss Guyana Culture Queen.
One of her take aways from that experience would be to enjoy every moment, as the experiences gained from preparing for pageants like these will not happen again.
In anticipation of gracing the regional stage, Shequana is taking incredible strides in strengthening on her answering skills for the question-and-answer portion of the pageant.
“I am running all the segments as it relates to talent, and swim wear and evening wear, but I am more focused on the Q&A segment,” she stated, explaining that she strongly believes that in order to win a pageant, you should be able to excel in every segment.
According to Holder: “I’m not saying I’m not strong in question and answer, but I don’t want to take the chance of not being completely prepared,”

Apart from pageantry Shequana currently works as a data entry clerk at the Ministry of Health, and is passionate about making a difference in the lives of youths in her community through youth empowerment.
“I’ve been on youth empowerment since I was in Secondary School. I think it’s because I do possess a lot of leadership qualities, and a lot of people see me as a role model now, and I would like to go back to my community and be a voice for the youths,” she said.
Shequana is being coached by Alicia Bess-Anderson; a name prominent in pageantry here in Guyana.

The young woman encourages young women to take that bold step, and pursue whatever they put their minds to. She urges them to be confident in themselves and what they can achieve.
Following in the Miss Caribbean Culture Queen- 2023, Shemina Peroune’s footsteps, Holder aims to bring the crown home once more. As she presses on in her journey to the crown, Shequana is overwhelmed with support from the Guyanese community.
The Miss Caribbean Culture Queen pageant 2024, will be hosted in the island of Nevis, at the Nevis Cultural Complex on August 05, 2024 at 20:30 hours.
To show support, persons can follow Miss Guyana Culture Queen and the Miss Caribbean Culture Queen pages on Facebook and keep updated with all of Shequana’s progress.
