NAASIK Alli, a 32-year-old taxi driver from Number 75 Village Corentyne, Berbice, has been sentenced to three years and eight months in prison and fined over $104 million following his arrest for possession of narcotics with the intent to traffic.
He was apprehended on July 10, 2024, during a police intelligence-led operation in Berbice.

The operation, executed by officers from Regional Police Division #6 and Police Headquarters, intercepted the vehicle Alli was driving on the Number 45 Village Public Road.
Inside the vehicle, authorities discovered 257 pounds of marijuana, valued at approximately $35 million. Alli was subsequently charged under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act Chapter 10:10.
He appeared before Magistrate Tuanna Hardy at the Albion Magistrates’ Court on Friday, where he pleaded guilty to the charge. The court then handed down a sentence of three years and eight months imprisonment, along with a hefty fine of $104,977,620.
