-Region Two Chairperson urges Essequibo business community
REGION Two Chairperson Vilma De Silva in emphasising the pivotal role of the private sector in driving economic growth, has urged the business community to investment in agri-tourism within the region.
Speaking at a meet-and-greet cocktail organised by the Essequibo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ECCI) on Friday last at Jaigobin’s Hotel, De Silva encouraged the business community in Region Two to contribute to the development of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region and she used the opportunity to reassure them of governmental support.
“Don’t be fearful in terms of investment because our economy is growing, and we are seeing tremendous growth. Our government is investing heavily in infrastructure and we have almost completed two-thirds of the road network within the region,” De Silva stated.
She highlighted the government’s commitment to providing proper roads and infrastructure for farmers and residents, and noted the significant investments in agriculture and land expansion, which present new opportunities for development.

De Silva mentioned the potential of agri-tourism, suggesting that activities such as weekend farm visits, where visitors can learn about crop cultivation.
“We can have people coming to the farm to hang out on weekends. Some people don’t even know how some crops are grown, and visitors will be fascinated to see all this. These are opportunities that surround us,” she said.
She also mentioned ongoing infrastructural projects, such as the phased construction of the Lima Sands road.
By 2025, the region is expected to have completed 2,500 kilometres of roads, enhancing access to tourism sites such as the tri-lake experience.
De Silva urged the business community to collaborate and seize these opportunities, pledging the Regional Democratic Council’s (RDC) support for local businesses.
She assured them of protection at the borders and called for unity in fostering regional development.
