ON Friday, a group of Warrau migrants received a quantity of food and household items from the Civil Defence Commission (CDC), in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The group, which consists of mainly women and children, is being housed at Zeeburg and Greenwich Park, West Coast Demerara (WCD). The migrants are primarily from neighbouring Venezuela.

In a press release, the CDC said that, with the assistance of local and international organisations, they have been assisting migrants who have relocated to Guyana in search of a better life.
Over 30,000 Venezuelan migrants are estimated to be living in Guyana. Earlier this year, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hugh Todd said that the government’s long-term objective is to integrate the migrants into Guyanese society but while plans are being put in place, the migrants will receive support in essential areas such as food, clothing, education, health and housing.
