KFC Elite League…

THE Guyana Police Force (GPF) football squad showed up on Thursday evening at the Guyana Football Federation National Training Centre with their marksman and amply downed Monedderlust FC as KFC Elite League action continued.

The Police had to defend against a flurry of chances from the Berbice-based Monedderlust from the onset.

Monedderlust, who were hungry for their first league win, showed intent after a heavy defeat to Slingerz, but failed to overcome the Police barricade at the end of 90 minutes.

Monedderlust tried hard, but it was a counter-attacking effort from Police that got them onto the score sheet in the 27th minute for the lead off the boot of Threvon Pluck.

Dorwin George then found the back of the net in the 34th to double the lead, before a first half injury time goal from Pernell Schultz made it 3-nil.

After the resumption, Nicholas McArthur came to the party in the 56th to put the game beyond the reach of Monedderlust FC, as the ‘boys in blue’ started to dominate.

Schultz grabbed his second in the 65th minute, before Jemar Harrigan completed the rout in injury time of the second half for a 6-nil victory.

The league continues today (Saturday) with a double-header, as Slingerz FC will meet Santos in the feature clash, with Den Amstel set to take on Fruta Conquerors in the other encounter.

The league also features defending champion Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Western Tigers, Buxton United, Ann’s Grove, Slingerz, Fruta Conquerors, Santos, and Den Amstel football clubs.
The league sees the top clubs battling for G$2M for first place, with G$1.2M for second.

Third place is set to cop G$800,000, with G$500,000 for fourth.

Season 6 of the league, sponsored by KFC Restaurant, sees each team playing each other twice, with 90 games to be played in the league at different venues around the country.
