A NUMBER 30 Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB) man, who was nabbed with marijuana by the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU), was on Thursday found guilty of drug trafficking following the conclusion of his trial and was sentenced to two years and six months behind bars.

The trial of 44-year-old Paul Lewis was heard before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court. In June 2023, he was arrested and charged with the offence.

When Lewis appeared for the last day of his trial, he was told that he was found guilty of the offence and as such was sentenced to time in jail and fined $3,558,600.

CANU said that he was busted with 3.954 kilogrammes of cannabis.

It was reported that Lewis was arrested at his home by CANU ranks with the illegal substance.

The agency had said in a statement that when its officers carried out an operation at Lewis’s house, parcels of marijuana were discovered. As such, he was arrested and the narcotic was seized.
