BUDGET 2024: Sports, Culture, Art undergoing ‘sharpest and greatest transformations’

Some $2.7 billion has been budgeted to promote Guyana’s culture and arts, and according to Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh this allocation makes provision for a new modern art gallery and museum. 

Dr. Singh during his budget 2024 presentation revealed that massive funds have been budgeted to support the sports, culture and arts sectors. 

To this end, $100 million has been budgeted to support activities associated with the observance of the International Decade for People of African Descent. 

Meanwhile, to further support the growth of the country’s sports sector $4.6 billion has been budgeted. 

Dr. Singh noted that the culture, sports and arts sectors are currently undergoing ‘the sharpest and greatest’ transformation recorded in the country’s history. 

“More is being invested to ensure that our citizens and importantly our young people have access to world-class sporting facilities,” Dr. Singh said.
