Dear Editor,

LISTEN up now, mek we chat bout Venezuela and Guyana. Two neighbours, but dem worlds apart inna how tings a gwan. Venezuela? Lawd, de place inna real mess. De govment deh corrupt till it cyaan corrupt no more. People a live tough – no food, no proper health care, money na worth a thing. Millions ah Venezuelans had fuh pack up an lef, lookin fuh a betta life, someweh else.

Now, tek a look pon Guyana. Oh gyal, it a whole different scene deh so. President Ali, da man solid, man ah him word. Member dem drains in Eccles? He mek sure dem dig out, easing up all dem flooding problem. De people dem grateful, yuh see.

But wait, hear dis part – Guyana nah just stop deh so. Dem govment a dish out nuff coconut trees, like 400,000 or sumting lik da! Part a dem big plan fi mek agriculture step up big time. De economy a kick off – more production, more money a flow. Guyana a shine like a bright star.

And guess what? Guyana a turn into de breadbasket of de Caribbean again, yuh know. All dem Caricom countries a tek notice! We a talk ’bout rice farming? It a fly high, yield up by four times inna just four year! Sugar? Dem a revitalise it with new tech. Guyana ah get into high-tech farming, yuh know – drones an’ dem tings. Plus, dem a improve water management with new irrigation projects.

Nah just rice an’ sugar no more. Dem a plant corn, soybean, nuff fruits, veggies. Organic farming a tek off, an’ fish farming inna de pipeline. De govment deh behind de farmers 100 per cent. Subsidies, advice, all kinda help. Dem even got a big, big plan fi agriculture.

So dats de story: Venezuela inna deep, deep trouble with corrupt leaders. Too much people a haffi leave. But right next door, Guyana a blossom ‘specially inna de farming world. Dem a fix up flooding problems, step up agriculture big time.

President Ali an’ him team a show how good leadership can mek a country stand tall. Two neighbours, but dem walking two very different roads inna dis part a de world. Guyana a set example for all, a real gem inna de Caribbean.
Sincerely,
Haimdat Sawh
