WITH almost 30 years of transporting marine cargo, Tropical Shipping has launched their new Less than Container Load (LCL) service from Puerto Rico to Guyana, on Thursday, at the Muneshwer’s wharf on Water Street, Georgetown.
In his presentation, the Vice President of Tropical Shipping, Mr. Mark Lopez, elucidated their profound enthusiasm regarding the upcoming implementation of their new LCL service on October 20th.

According to the Vice President, “this service complements our existing six-day transit out of the United States under Full Container Load (FCL) and LCL and our three-day transit for Trinidad. We are very excited to extend our service as it is required here in Guyana, and next year we will be celebrating 30 years of service in Guyana.”
Mr. Lopez also pointed out that Tropical Shipping has proudly collaborated with its Guyanese importers to contribute to the economic development and ensure a smooth supply chain for all.

“Throughout the years, we have provided a weekly service to Guyanese, and we are very proud of our track record, and we are grateful and proud that we continue to support Guyana,” Lopez explained.
In the meantime, Maria Del Mar Rodriguez, the assistant vice president of Tropical Shipping, expressed her joy in inaugurating the new service from Puerto Rico to Guyana.
“What a great way to connect, and we have provided an additional source for the supply chain in Guyana. Puerto Rico is completely capable, and many suppliers and other companies have options to source from that can elevate and help Guyana’s economy. We are here to support the trade; Guyana, and we are happy to be here,” she noted.
Also speaking at the launch was the General Manager of Muneshwers Ltd, Mr. Chandradat Chintamani, who said that his company was “pleased and happy” to partner with Tropical Shipping for any value-added service that it brings to Guyana.

“We all know that Guyana is an evolving economy and one of the largest growing economies in the world, so having value-added services such as this is also helping the economy grow and move from where it was many years ago.”

Mr. Chintamani continued: “we are looking forward, as the port that is receiving these boxes (packages), to having them ‘destuffed’ and ready for the consignee to receive them.
Finally, the Country Manager of Tropical Shipping Guyana, Ms. Glenis Hodge, also explained that this is the first LCL service for Guyana.
According to her, the service was being launched to help facilitate trade between Guyana and Puerto Rico. “Even though people are coming from San Juan Puerto Rico to Guyana, not all of them want to bring an entire container load of supplies; many people would like to bring less of the container load, so we are facilitating that.”
Furthermore, she made note of the service’s public release today (October 20), coinciding with the commencement of its maiden voyage. She further stated that the transit time will be nine days, making it “the fastest service time between San Juan and Georgetown, Guyana.

Ms. Hodge provided additional details, stating that while goods will be shipped from Puerto Rico to Guyana, there is confidence that Guyanese individuals will also be interested in shopping from Puerto Rico due to the elimination of the need for a container to ship their purchases. She also mentioned that they will be exploring the concept of customers making online purchases and having them sent to their Puerto Rico facility for shipping.
