THE Ministry of Education’s Unit of Allied Arts, on Thursday, launched a music workshop on calypso and the essentials of composing for primary school teachers at the National Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue.

Over the next two days, twenty-eight teachers from primary schools across the country will be exposed to the aspects of calypso and the essentials of composing music with a focus on calypso.

During the opening ceremony, the Head of the Allied Arts Unit, Mr. Nicholas Fraser, said the workshop is aimed at fostering an early interest in music in pupils. He noted that the Unit of Allied Arts has embarked on numerous initiatives to enhance the music programme within the education sector.

That, he said, was in keeping with the Ministry of Education’s vision to ensure each student graduates secondary school exposed to a TVET subject, foreign language, musical instrument, and a sport.

In brief remarks, the Music Coordinator at the Unit of Allied Arts, Mr. Joel Gonsalves, stated that the workshop aims to equip primary school teachers with the necessary skills.
He also encouraged the participating teachers to share the information with other teachers in their respective schools.
