Toronto Blizzards, Pegasus Storm vie for supremacy
SEVERAL former National players will be in action when defending champions Toronto Blizzards and Pegasus Storm clash on Saturday in the final of the Ontario Masters Softball Cricket Clubs (OMSCC) Over-50 tournament at the Ashtonbee Reservoir in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.

Among the big names in the Toronto Blizzards batting lineup are Sunil Dhaniram, Shiv Seeram, Jaimini Singh, Mohan Harihar and Desmond Chumney, the latter having represented Canada at the 2003 World Cup.

Pegasus Storm will be led by the experienced Troy Gobin and includes the likes of Ramo Malone, Ian “Russian” Baldeo, Jito Narine and Jai Singh in the batting department while the potent bowling attack will see old stager Terry Mathura leading the way with Khem Singh, Gobin, Baldeo and Malone lending support.
Having played each other twice in the 2023 season and sharing the spoils, the stage is set for a big showdown in the 20-over affair with both teams exuding confidence of carting off the championship.

The first game, played on the opening day at Dean Park, saw Toronto Blizzards winning easily after batting first and reaching 184 for two in the allotted 20 overs. Pegasus Storm, in reply, could only muster 145 for eight when their overs expired, going down by 39 runs. Sunil Dhaniram led the way for the winners with a solid 75 while Jaimini Singh scored 36 and Mohan Harihar 25. The lone standout for Pegasus Storm was Malone with a quick-fire 50.

In the second fixture, played at Littles ground, Pegasus Storm batted first and made 137 for seven in 20 overs with skipper Gobin leading from the front with 52. Blizzards were restricted to 123 for four in their 20 overs with Abdool Azeez hitting and undefeated 43 as the defending champs lost by 14 runs.

Both Blizzards and Pegasus Storm won their semi-final encounters easily, the latter defeating last year’s finalists Ramblers Rampage while the latter made light work of Dirty Dozen.
Toronto Blizzards also featured in the New York Softball Cricket League (NYSCL) Over-50 final, losing to eventual winners Regal Legends while they also reached the semi-finals of the Orlando Cricket Super League (OCSL) last March when they lost to the home team. They are, however, confident of retaining supremacy on Saturday.
Saturday’s final will be followed by the presentation ceremony which will include prizes won during the season and in the final.
