POLICE are investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains in an abandoned two-storey wooden building at Uitvlugt Estate Road, West Coast Demerara.
Police were called in after the discovery was made, and visited the scene at around 09:45 hrs on Friday.
Enquiries disclosed that around 09:15hrs, a 51-year-old labourer of Stewartville Squatting Area, West Coast Demerara, was walking in the area when he entered the abandoned premises to use the restroom.
After getting a whiff of a foul scent from the upper flat of the building, the labourer said he decided to inspect that section of the building by accessing it through an eastern staircase.
Upon entering, he observed the fully decomposed remains of what appeared to be a man hanging by a white cloth on a wooden beam in the hall.
Detectives took photos of the skeletal remains in its original hanging position, after which it was cut down.
The remains were taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where identification and a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
