CLIFTON Moore, the head trainer of the Vergenoegen Boxing Gym, in Region Three, has achieved global certification as the latest technical officer of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA).
He successfully completed the International Boxing Association (IBA) Online 1 Star Coaching Course. The confirmation of Moore’s success was communicated by IBA Development Officer, Chris Roberts, OBE, to GBA president, Steve Ninvalle, through an official release.
Moore is the second coach affiliated with the GBA to participate in IBA certification training. Previously, three-star trainer, Sebert Blake, had the opportunity to partake in the IBA Cutman Technician Course held during the Women’s World Championship in New Delhi, India, from March 15 to 31, this year.
The prestigious IBA course took place from April 4 to 12 via the online platform Zoom, with Moore being one of 39 participants from various countries such as Bermuda, Iran, New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, England, Cape Verde, Belgium, Italy, Namibia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Singapore, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago, and Zambia.
The IBA 1 Star Coaching Certification is the starting point for emerging trainers to acquire international accreditations under the governing body. Mr Ninvalle expressed his satisfaction with Moore’s achievement, emphasising the association’s commitment to the long-term growth and development of the sport. The GBA aims to equip its trainers with the necessary knowledge in an ever-evolving environment through international certification and training, considering it an essential best practice of the modern world.
Ninvalle further highlighted that the development of the sport is a collective effort requiring certification for trainers and international competition opportunities for boxers.
Guyana has demonstrated its excellence in the English-speaking Caribbean region, and in order to maintain their competitive edge and dominance, the GBA is committed to empowering its personnel.
Trainers play a crucial role, and the GBA will continue its developmental agenda to enhance their skills and capabilities, ultimately benefiting the discipline of boxing. Ninvalle congratulated Clifton Moore on his achievement, expressing hope for many more international successes in the future.
