Buxton United close out Den Amstel 2-0 to end round 1
The company and the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) on Friday signed a non-alcoholic beverage sponsorship deal to be the official provider of juice, soft drink and water during the two-month KFC sponsored Elite League tournament.
Corporate Guyana continues to respond to Guyana President Irfaan Ali and GFF President Wayne Forde’s calls to support football development and promotion initiatives in Guyana.
GFF President Forde thanked Guyana Beverages Inc for supporting the league which gives top local talent a competitive national platform.
“We are very happy to welcome Guyana Beverages Inc. to the community of partners who have stepped forward to contribute generously to the successful staging of Season Five of the KFC Elite League. GBI has a long history in the development of football. Over the years, they have made significant investment in grassroots programmes, community football activities and international fixtures,” Forde said.
The KFC Elite League is a priority for the GFF with the champions automatically qualifying for the CONCACAF / Caribbean Shield Championships.
But first teams have to overcome the first hurdle of the knockout stages in the highly competitive league to make it to the two-millions dollars championship match.
Guyana Beverages Inc. General Manager Samuel Arjoon pledged his company’s continued support of GFF President Forde’s vision for football across Guyana.
“We are pleased to contribute to the Guyana Football Federation Elite League Championship. This Championship allows young talent to develop their skills at a competitive level. Guyana Beverages Inc. will continue to support the efforts of GFF in further developing the sport and football at all levels,” Arjoon added.
Meanwhile Buxton united thumped Dem Amstel Football Club 2-0 as the League continued Thursday evening in a match which saw goals coming until the second half.
In the 55th minute, Seon Heywood found himself perfectly positioned inside the box and after receiving a pass, notched it into the net’s to break the ice for Buxton. Though Den Amstel; upped their intensity, it was Buxton’s Lennox O’ Dean who found the back of the net in the 76th after beating the Den Amstel defence.
After Round 1, Western Tigers currently lead the charge with 3 points and a +10 goal difference. They are followed by Santos with 3 points and a +7 goal difference. The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) FC, Guyana Police Force (GPF) FC and the Buxton United FC all have three points with goal differences of +4, +2 and +2 respectively.
The League continues on Sunday at the GFF’s National Training Center (NTC), Providence, East Bank Demerara, where Milerock FC will take on Santos FC from 15:00hrs. Then on Tuesday, the action will move to the GDF Ground, Camp Ayangana, Georgetown, where Western Tigers and Buxton United will look horns from 19:00hrs. Then, the feature match of the night will see Den Amstel battling the soldiers on their home turf from 21:00hrs.
