INDERJEET Ramjeet, called “Curiso,” who was on trial for the 2011 fatal stabbing of a man during a “bush cook,” was on Wednesday acquitted of the crime by a jury.
Ramjeet, 45, of Topoo, Albion, East Berbice-Corentyne, was on trial at the Berbice High Court before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall for manslaughter.
He had denied that on July 4, 2011, in the county of Berbice, he unlawfully killed Mahendra Ally, called ‘Strong Man.’
After deliberating for two hours, the 12-member jury found Ramjeet not guilty. Prosecutor Muntaz Ali represented the state.
According to reports, Ally left home shortly after 09:00hrs on the day in question and told his family that he was going to a “bush cook” with his friends at Topoo.
During the “bush cook,” Ramjeet showed up uninvited while under the influence of alcohol. It is alleged that an altercation ensued between Ramjeet and another man.
Ally intervened and was allegedly stabbed in the chest by Ramjeet, who was armed with a knife. The victim was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
