-30 elders get Christmas hampers, cash
IN fulfilling a Lima resident’s wish to have a comfortable home for Christmas, Essequibo businessman and Managing Director of International Import and Supplies, Joe Jagmohan, has handed over a brand-new fully furnished house to 51-year-old Latchmin Sookdeo.
The former employee received the “gift” on Christmas Day in memory of Jagmohan’s mother, Chano, who passed away in 2020.
The house was constructed in 18 days for Sookdeo and, according to Jagmohan, he felt happy knowing that she will be able to sleep comfortably in 2023.
The businessman has been Involved in many other humanitarian projects, including furnishing homes for fire victims throughout Guyana.
As she accepted the keys to her new house, Sookdeo said, amid tears, that she could not have asked for a better Christmas gift. She is currently unemployed and is suffering from various ailments.

Additionally, she will be receiving cash every month for the next year from the businessman. His aim is to empower her to open a small shop so that she can become self-sufficient.
Jagmohan said he is happy to join President, Dr. Irfaan Ali, in presenting homes to the vulnerable.
He said his company has been doing its part to ensure that the less fortunate families are happy and comfortable.
Two more houses will be constructed in 2023. The vulnerable families will be selected by the Region Two Regional Democratic Council (RDC).
Regional Vice-Chairman, Humace Oodit, used the opportunity to commend the businessman for his generosity during the festive season.

He said that the construction and donation of the new house fit perfectly into President Ali’s vision. He called on other businessmen to do similar deeds.
Project Manager at International Import and Supplies, Ravi Budram, related that, in 2019 the businessman constructed and handed over a fully furnished house to a family at Crabwood Creek, Berbice.
The family’s house was destroyed by fire.
Another house was built for a vulnerable family at St. Cuthbert’s Mission who had also lost their house in a fire. In total, the company has constructed three houses for persons in need.
“Our company is about giving back. Sookdeo reached out to us and we are happy to do this for her. In 18 days we built this for her,” Budram explained.
Meanwhile, Jagmohan also distributed hampers and $10,000 cash to 30 elders. The Region Two elders were also treated to a tasty meal.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the businessman for his continuous acts of generosity.
One elder said it was not the first time she was receiving a hamper from the businessman who “is always kind.”
