– one hospitalised with gunshot wound
TWO masked bandits robbed two money-changers on Monday of an undisclosed sum of local and foreign currency on Water Street, Georgetown.
Police said that one of the robbers was armed with a gun.
Enquiries revealed that the two victims, a 66-year-old money changer of Vlissengen Road, Georgetown and a 41-year-old money changer of Sophia, who usually ply their trade on Water Street daily, were, on Monday, at about 13:45 hours confronted by the two suspects.
During the confrontation, the suspect, who was armed with a firearm, relieved one of the victims of his money. While attempting to rob the other victim, who pulled out a knife from the waist of his pants to defend himself, the armed suspect discharged a round from the firearm, which hit the second victim on his right lower forearm and his right side abdomen.
After relieving the shot victim of the cash, the robbers escaped on a motorcycle which was parked nearby along Water Street.
The shot victim was picked up and taken to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he is currently receiving treatment and is in stable condition. Police recovered a .32 spent shell from the scene as investigations continue.
