CANU intercepts boat with 1,000 live cartridges

OFFICERS of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) discovered a large quantity of ammunition after intercepting a boat while patrolling along Crabwood Creek and Moleson Creek on Wednesday.

Upon recognising the CANU team, some of the occupants fled into the nearby bushes but the officers gave chase and managed to apprehend one male along with the boat.

A subsequent search of the vessel revealed a large amount of shotgun ammunition.

According to information from CANU, a North Sophia resident, Jerimiah Smith, who was recently arrested by CANU in relation to the discovery of 40 kg of cannabis discovered in a motor vehicle at Springlands, was arrested and handed over to the Springlands police along with the 1,000 12-gauge live cartridges.

Investigations are ongoing.
