THE body of Haimnarine Chandradeo, a 28-year-old fisherman, was found at the Dantzig seawall at Mahaicony on Tuesday morning, five days after he was reported missing.
According to information from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the body was discovered by a Ministry of Public Works engineer who was conducting an inspection at the said seawall.
Due to the state of decomposition, the police were unable to determine whether there were any marks of violence.
Chandradeo’s body was ‘escorted’ to the Mahaicony Public Hospital where the official pronouncement of death was made by a doctor on duty.
Subsequently, the remains were positively identified by the fisherman’s cousin, Kamal Bharrat, who recognised the tattoos on the body.
The body is presently lying at the Bailey’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The police had reported that, on September 1, around 11:00hrs, Chandradeo, along with two crew members, left the Albion foreshore to catch fish at sea.
It was disclosed by the two crew members that Chandradeo was struck by lightning and fell overboard. He then disappeared.
