AS police continue investigations into the fatal accident which occurred on Sunday, on the Berbice River Bridge Access Road, 35-year-old police sergeant Quacy Rose of the Tactical Services Unit, Georgetown, has been arrested.
Inquiries disclosed that, at the time of the accident, motorcar PPP 2020, driven by the sergeant, was proceeding east along the northern drive lane at a fast rate of speed while the driver of motorcycle CL 6802, 43-year-old Aubrey Sears of West Coast Berbice was proceeding west along the southern drive lane at a fast rate of speed.
The policeman alleged that the motorcyclist rode into his path and collided with the front right side of his vehicle. As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist fell onto the said car bonnet then onto the front windscreen and the road surface, before finally ending up on the southern grass parapet.
He was picked up with injuries about his body and in an unconscious condition by public-spirited persons and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was examined and pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
The body is presently at the Arokium Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyzer test which was conducted on the sergeant read zero. Notice of intended prosecution was served on the policeman, who remains in custody assisting with further investigations.
