– as over 600 enrolled in GED diploma programme
GUYANESE have been hearing, regularly, of the Government’s intention to transform Guyana for the benefit of every citizen. Improvement is expected in every sector.
In the area of education, Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) is managing a scholarship programme which is aimed at providing opportunities for persons, of all ages, to acquire knowledge and skills to facilitate their contribution to the development of Guyana.
The management of GOAL, conscious that there were citizens who did not meet the academic criteria necessary to access higher education, adopted the GED Programme, an excellent alternative to a traditional high school diploma. Acquisition of a GED Diploma guarantees acceptance to Colleges and Universities in many countries.
The GED programme provides a second chance for those who did not complete secondary education successfully and, in some cases, a first chance for those who never attended secondary school.
The Georgetown American University (GAU), a Guyanese-owned and managed institution that is poised, well positioned and ready to support developmental initiatives of the Government, accepted Government’s challenge to produce online platforms to deliver the GED programme.
GAU launched the much-heralded GOAL GED programme on Friday August 26. Over 600 students are enrolled. Dr Melissa Varswyk, Chief Executive Officer of GAU, in a brief interview, stated that four highly qualified and experienced tutors will be interacting with the students and the online platform is extremely user-friendly. She added that GAU is looking forward to additional opportunities to provide service in support of Government’s development agenda.
