THE Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the National Milling Company (NAMILCO) Thunderbolt Flour Power U17 League for boys will commence today at the National Training Centre, Providence.
A release from GFF indicated that the partnership continues in line with NAMILCO’s objective to support the sustainable development of youths in Guyana.
The competition, which is compulsory for all nine GFF regional associations, commences with the intra-association league in the East Bank Football Association, with an exciting match featuring Swan FC vs. Kuru Kururu Warriors FC at 13:00hrs
In addition, at 15:00hrs the East Demerara Football Association commences its Intra-Association Leg with Buxton United FC taking on the B/V Triumph United FC alsoat the GFF National Training Centre, Providence.
After the Intra-Association phase of the tournament the best teams in each regional association will compete in a championship round to crown the national champions.
“We are delighted to see the Regional Associations kicking off this tournament under the prevailing challenges that the recent weather pattern has posed and we continue to be very grateful that NAMILCO, as a brand with a long history of service in Guyana, has come on board again to support this tournament, which is a crucial pillar in our long-term strategy to develop young men, who will lead positive, productive lives and to discover and nurture talented footballers through age-specific programmes,” president Forde said.
More than a thousand boys across Guyana have benefited from the GFF-NAMILCO ‘Flour Power’ U17 Intra-Association League, with several players progressing to Guyana’s youth and senior national teams, including Omari Glasgow, who recently signed a professional contract with Chicago Fire II.
