Suspect reportedly dies during alleged La Grange home invasion

ANIL Singh, a 34-year-old businessman of Unity Street, West Bank Demerara (WBD), on Wednesday, reportedly shot and killed Learone Forde who allegedly tried to rob him at his home.

According to a police statement, the businessman and his wife, Christina Singh, were asleep when, around 01:15 hrs, they were awakened by the sound of a window of their apartment being forcefully opened.

The statement said the businessman armed himself with his licensed .32 Taurus Pistol and stood behind the door of his bedroom while his wife and child remained on the bed.

Police said there were two suspects in the reported home invasion, one armed with a cutlass and another with acrowbar. One of the two men then reportedly rushed into the bedroom and was reportedly shot in the leg by Singh.

The first suspect fell to the floor while the other escaped in an unknown direction.

Police said in the report that the suspect who was shot reportedly pleaded with the businessman. This newspaper, however, will not ‘carry’ that section of the police report.

The statement noted, however, there was a scuffle between the suspect and the businessman which later resulted in several rounds of ammunition being discharged, causing injuries to both men.

Police said that, upon their arrival at the scene, the suspect was discovered in a pool of blood with several gunshot wounds about the head and body. The businessman, on the other hand, had gunshot wounds about his body.

The statement from law enforcement said a search was done for nearby surveillance cameras. After processing the scene, five spent shells of .32 ammunition, four live rounds, and two metal fragments suspected to be war heads were discovered at the scene.

The businessman, Anil Singh, was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen by a doctor and admitted as a patient for injuries received, while the suspect was taken to the Ezekiel Funeral home, police said.

According to police, the gun was lodged and Singh’s wife is currently in custody assisting with the investigation. No information was provided on the wellbeing of the child.
