.. Berbice, Linden on stream from today
OVER 1500 aspiring swimmers have registered for the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport/National Sports Commission (NSC) annual ‘Teach Them Young’ swim camp, which ‘plunged off’ yesterday at the National Aquatic Centre at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.
With Region Four (July 18 – August 12) leading the way, camps in Berbice (Albion) and Linden (Watooka) will start today and will conclude on August 5.
This year will be the largest in the camp’s history, with organisers expecting the numbers to climb as they cater for late registrants.

This year’s camp, according to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr, was structured to ensure that the attendees would benefit in every way as they embark on the journey of learning what is considered a ‘life skill’.
Meanwhile, Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle highlighted that over 45 coaches will be in charge of the various sessions.
Ninvalle called the programme this year “historic,” while adding “…because the level of organisation and the way we have continued to listen to associations is a microcosm of how the Government of Guyana is working towards developing sport in Guyana. Never before in swimming or any other programme run by our ministry, this amount of participants.”
