FORTY-FOUR newly trained Guyana Police Force (GPF) drivers recently completed the first four-wheel driving course of 2022, which commenced on June 6, 2022.
According to Police Headquarters, the course comprised 44 ranks from various policing divisions and departments, and it was completed on July 8, 2022.
During the five weeks, the instructors focused on the theoretical and practical aspects of driving and road use, with two weeks of theoretical learning concluding with a written exam.
Additionally, the ranks underwent a three-week practical exposure session in defensive driving, good driving habits, and parking.
Upon completion of their training, the ranks were tested for their level of competency in operating a vehicle on the road, and they all were successful.
The GPF noted that the ranks have each since been issued with a certificate of competence and a driver’s licence with force driver permits.
Force Traffic Officer, Senior Superintendent Ramesh Ashram, noted that through the Force’s acquisition of more vehicles, the demand for trained drivers must be met.
He said that, as such, the Force’s Administration sought to train ranks from various Divisions.
In closing, Senior Superintendent Ashram charged the ranks to practise what they have learned and to be capable drivers as they leave with the required skills and knowledge for their respective stations and departments.
The instructor of the course, Sergeant Eldon Sobers, highlighted that throughout the course all the participants were committed and determined to become efficient drivers.
He lauded the discipline displayed by the ranks and commended them on their outstanding performance.
Present also were Woman Chief Inspector, Natasha Alder and Inspector Michael Ramdass.
