$484M in cocaine, marijuana seized on aircraft at Mahdia Airstrip

ON Sunday, ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) seized 639.9 pounds of cocaine and 120.45 pounds of cannabis from an aircraft that made an unauthorised landing at the Mahdia airstrip (Region Eight).

According to a report, the intelligence-led operation by the GPF around 14:20 hrs on Sunday resulted in the arrest of Rodrigues Canon Dandres Estiven, a 43-year-old Colombian, and Mateus Vinicius Pontes Alberto, a 23-year-old Brazilian national who were aboard the vessel.

The police noted that the white Cessna skyline single-engine airplane – red, light grey and dark grey in colour with registration number #N5470z, is suspected of having come from Venezuela.

 

A search of the aircraft unearthed ten large parcels containing suspected cocaine and one small parcel containing suspected cannabis.

The suspected cocaine and cannabis were seized along with one satellite phone, two GPS, two cellular phones, one Icon radio set, and documents.

Both men were escorted to the GPF Criminal Investigations Department at Eve Leary, where the parcels were weighed in their presence and amounted to 639.9 lbs or 290.2 KG cocaine (250 packs) and cannabis120.45 lbs or 54.6 KG (50 packs).

The cocaine value in Guyana is $435,380,640 and the marijuana value in Guyana $49,171,680.
