FORMER Guyana Under-19 batsman Troy Gobin blasted an undefeated 108 to steer his side Pegasus Storm to an emphatic nine-wicket victory over Friendship Masters when the Ontario Masters Softball Cricket Clubs (OMSCC) Over-50 tournament continued last Saturday at Dean Park, Ontario, Canada.

Gobin, who also represented Malteenoes Sports Club in Guyana before migrating to Canada, slammed eight fours and seven sixes off a mere 51 balls, sharing an opening stand of 146 in 13 overs with Surendra Persaud whose contribution was 51, with four fours and four sixes as Pegasus Storm made light work of Friendship Masters 195 for five in their allotted 20 overs, reaching 201 for one in 17.3 overs.

Following Persaud’s departure, Gobin found another useful ally in Jito Narine who was in a no- nonsense mood, as he clobbered five sixes in an unbeaten 34 off 12 balls. Jano Panday took the lone wicket to fall for 20 runs.

Earlier, opener Surujpaul Persaud batted through Friendship Masters innings to end with 64 not out, a knock that included three fours and six sixes, sharing useful partnerships along the way. Other meaningful contributions came from opener Robin Gopaul (27) and Sunny Ramdahar (24). Jerry Brittania ended with two for 34 from his three overs.

The previous week also saw Narine becoming the first player to hit a century for Pegasus Storm who are competing for the second year in the OMSCC.

Playing against Remax All Stars at St Bede, Narine registered an even hundred off 61 balls as Pegasus Storm stormed to 230 for four in their allotted 20 overs. His knock was decorated with three fours and eight sixes. Ken Itwaru rushed to an unbeaten 44 off 22 balls with one four and five sixes while Gobin was also among the runs with 32 with three fours and two sixes. Samlall Persaud took two for 35.

In reply, Remax All Stars were restricted to 142 for nine in 20 overs, going down by 78 runs. Nand Tiwari hit a top score of 47 (four fours and three sixes). Rudy Bhopual was Pegasus Storm best bowler with three for 14 from three overs.

Pegasus Storm will collide with defending champions Toronto Blizzards on Saturday at Littles ground. Their first encounter, played at Dean Park, ended in a no-result after rain intervened. (Frederick Halley)
