PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, (CMC) – Rain ravaged Saturday’s round of matches in the Under-19 Rising Stars Women’s T20 Championship, with United States Cricket pulling off victory in the only completed fixture.
Playing at the Brian Lara Stadium, the US had reached 169 for two when rain halted play after 17.5 overs, with opener Snigdha Paul top-scoring with an unbeaten 81 from 53 deliveries.
Set a revised target of 169 from 16 overs, Leeward Islands crawled to 16 for one off seven overs before rain ended play abruptly, with the US 47 runs ahead on Duckworth-Lewis-Stern.
In the second game at the venue, only one over was possible before adverse weather also forced an abandonment, Barbados reaching six for one after choosing to bat first against Windward Islands.
At the Diego Martin Sports Complex, hosts Trinidad and Tobago were 50 for four after seven overs against Jamaica when rain arrived to rule out any further play.
With the weather creating the headlines, Paul’s fireworks provided some respite. She lashed 14 fours, putting on 83 for the first wicket with Chetnaa Prasad who made 36 from 31 deliveries with five fours.
Once Pradad perished in the ninth over, Paul found an ally in Mitali Patwardhan (23) to add a further 86 for the second wicket and keep the US innings going at the back end.
