FORMER National U19 cricketer Richie Looknauth scored a half-century to lift Meten-Meer-Zorg Cricket Club (New York) to an 89-run victory over Team United Fighters on Sunday in the Lax Network Queens DBA Dunkin 40-over competition at Whitestone.

The pro-Guyanese cricket team won the toss and opted to bat. They stumbled early with the first five wickets falling for 41 runs, including that of skipper Andy Mohammed for one, Ronaldo Renee for eight, Looknauth Chinkoo for six, Chris Shewprasad for four and Ushardeva Balgobin for 12.

Looknauth and Kelvin Shewprasad 25 (3×6) then put together 36 runs for the sixth wicket, which helped to push the total higher.

Looknauth, on his weekend debut for the club, continued to battle and played his shots. His drive was able to propel his team to 151 before they fell in 34.3 overs.

Batting at five, the former national youth player finished with 66 runs from 77 balls, including four fours and four sixes.

Team United Fighters were led by Hasnath Rahman who finished with 3-37 from seven overs and Abul Juwel, who took 3-45 from 6.3 overs.

Rahman did the damage in the lower order, while opening bowler Juwel, who took two of his wickets early, returned later to dismiss Looknauth from the last ball of the innings.

Needing to score at 3.8 runs per over, Team United Fighters just could not keep their wickets intact.

Only three batters reached double figures with the highest score coming from opener Sufian Rahman, who finished with 17 runs (1×4, 1×6) in 26 balls.

Mohammed finished with 3-11 from seven overs, while Looknauth with 2-8 from 5.4 overs and Keith Edie 2-10 from three overs lent support to help dismiss Team United Fighters for 62 in 27.4 overs.
