A 23-year-old man from New Amsterdam, Berbice, was nabbed with 30.8 kilograms (or about 69 pounds) of cannabis while travelling in a taxi on Saturday.

Police Headquarters reported that the taxi, a white Toyota 212 (HC 2702), was stopped at a police roadblock in front the Weldaad Police Station on the West Coast of Berbice at about 12:15 hours.
The car is owned and was driven by a 47-year-old man from Light Town, East Bank Berbice.

When the vehicle was stopped, officers proceeded to search three market bags that reportedly belonged to the passenger when they found 15 compressed parcels wrapped with clear plastic. Those parcels contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be marijuana.

Upon discovering the suspected narcotics, the passenger was arrested and cautioned.
Police Headquarters reported that the man admitted to the possession of the suspected cannabis which was weighed in his presence.
