A PARTY of police ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, on Saturday, conducted an operation at Last Street, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and found 8.9 pounds or the equivalent of 4.037kg of cannabis on a labourer.

According to Police Headquarters, the 20-year-old labourer of Farm, EBD was seen crossing the Farm Bridge and entering Last Street, Herstelling, with a bulky multi-coloured hand bag in his hands.

Police said that the 20-year-old man was approached by a rank who conducted a search of the bag and four bulky brown scotch-taped parcels were found inside.

The parcels, police said were opened in the man’s presence and all of the them contained leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. The 20-year-old man was told of the allegation and arrested.

“At CID Headquarters, the suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and it amounted to 8.9 lbs, which is equivalent to 4.037kg. The suspected cannabis was marked, sealed and later lodged,” police stated.

Meanwhile, the suspect has implicated another man. That person has been arrested and is in custody assisting police with their investigation.
