HAMILTON, Bermuda, (CMC) – Puerto Rico’s men and women’s hockey teams, on Sunday, clinched the two remaining places at next year’s Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in the final round of qualifiers after finishing runners-up in both divisions.

First, Puerto Rico’s women held leaders and host, Bermuda, to a goalless draw, to finish second, a point clear of Jamaica, who, earlier, handed Guyana their third defeat of the week.

Puerto Rico’s men then thrashed Bermuda 3-0 to consign the host to bottom place and ensure their own place in El Salvador behind leaders Jamaica, whose Richard Harris was named male player of the tournament.

Bermuda’s Maha Clarke, whose side went through the event unbeaten, was named female Player-of-the-tournament, staged at the Flora Duffy Stadium.

“We are very happy with [double] qualification, it’s very satisfying for us,” Puerto Rico’s coach Hector Motta Rios said.

Needing a victory, Bermuda’s men fell behind early when Joseph Agosto put the Puerto Ricans ahead in the eight minute, scoring from a penalty corner.

Kenneth Rodriguez doubled the advantage with a 37th-minute penalty stroke before Agosto scored his second with a field goal near the end.

Imauny Linton sealed Jamaica’s win over Guyana – who sent only a women’s team to Bermuda – from a penalty corner in the 54th minute.
