Promoters laud Armed Services, donate tickets ahead of fight

GUYANA Boxing Board of Control president, Peter Abdool, and promoter Aleem Hussain recently paid a courtesy call on Chief-of-Staff, Brigadier Godfrey Bess, as they thanked the Armed Services for their continued work within the realm of sports, namely boxing.
Ahead of the April 23 Road to Redemption fight, Abdool and Hussain donated a large quantity of complimentary tickets. Brigadier Bess expressed his gratitude for the gesture and committed to working with ranks to ensure continuity in the performance of the boxing gym.
He stated that members of the gym will work with youths who are interested in the sport as a way to ensure that they occupy themselves meaningfully. “We will always support the endeavours of our ranks who venture into the field of boxing,” Brigadier Bess added.
Aleem Hussain, Nexgen Global Promotions “on behalf of Elton Dharry Promotions and Jack Bharat, I wish to present the members of the Armed Services with complimentary admission tickets to what will be the first-of-its-kind event in Guyana.
“We have similarly provided the other services, Guyana Police Force and Guyana Fire Service, with the same opportunity because it is important to recognise their selfless service on a daily basis to all Guyanese.”
Abdool was high in praise of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Boxing Gym and its performance over the years. He praised the critical contribution of the GDF gym to local amateur boxing.
“GDF is pivotal to amateur boxing in Guyana. The discipline among GDF boxers always shows and this is commendable. Look at what is happening in amateur boxing and so this is the opportune time for there to be a return of the Inter-Service boxing competition”.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport ensured that the greatest event had the biggest stage by allowing the action to take place inside the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, usually the home of CPL Guyana Amazon Warriors (cricket), thereby underlining the significance and importance of this return of World Championship Boxing to Guyana.
According to National Sports Commission Director, Steve Ninvalle, “The Ministry will be distributing 1 000 tickets to young persons and I believe that this is a key step towards rejuvenating the amateur ranks in boxing as it gives youngsters a chance to see boxing in the grandest setting.”
Despite the magnitude of the event which is expected to include a half-time music and cultural show, put on by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, ticket prices are just $1 000 for the Mound, $2 000 for Stands and $4 000 for Ringside. A limited number of all-inclusive tables for 8, which will receive service from Hard Rock Café, are available by calling 645-0944.
