A 29-YEAR-OLD woman was, on Thursday, released on $150,000 bail for allegedly attempting to murder a four-year-old girl child, the daughter of her female partner.

Padmini Dwarka, of Cemetery Road, Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD), appeared before Principal Magistrate, Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Court.

The accused woman was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that, on April 10, 2022, at Timehri, she wounded the little girl with intent to commit murder.

Now that Dwarka is on bail, she will return to court on May 17.

According to a police statement, the victim’s mother and Dwarka are, reportedly, in an intimate relationship and have been living together at Cemetery Road, Timehri with the victim.

It is alleged that, on the day in question, the ‘couple’ was involved in a heated argument.

The [victim’s] mother picked up her daughter and told Dwarka that she was leaving the relationship.

It is alleged that Dwarka armed herself with a knife and attempted to stab her lover; however, she ended up stabbing the child in the left side of her abdomen.

Dwarka fled the scene and later turned herself over to police at the Timehri Police Station. She was accompanied by a lawyer.

The victim is currently at a city hospital and is reportedly recovering.
