THE East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) launched its 50-over Under-17 Cricket tournament for the Commander’s Cup Thursday last.
The competition is fully sponsored by the Rockaway Group of Companies and Sunita Travel Service, two New York-based Businesses.
Commander Pareshram, in his presentation, stated that he was very grateful to be involved in sponsoring the Competition, since it came in line with the Police Force’s Strategic plan to promote relationships with our communities and youths.
He pledged his continued commitment regarding the sponsorship and development of cricket on the East Coast.
Pareshram urged the young cricketers to take the competition seriously as he was looking forward to a disciplined and exciting tournament. The East Coast Cricket Board / Commander Khali Pareshram U-17 tournament will be used for talent-spotting and for the selection of the ECCB U-17 squad.
Also in attendance was the vice-president of the ECCB, Mr. Barton, who addressed the gathering, urging the attendees to be responsible, while also acknowledging the sponsors’ efforts and financial sacrifices made to allow the players to be able to showcase theirtalents.
Mr. Daveteerth Anandjit, Secretary of the ECCB, in receiving the cheque, thanked Commander Pareshram and the overseas sponsors.
In his brief remarks, he declared that the ECCB will be delivering a quality tournament and urged the young cricketers to make full use of it.
In an invited comment, president of the ECCB, Bissoondyal Singh, said that he was delighted to see Commander Pareshram and, by extension, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) involvement and viewed this as a massive step in the right direction.
Singh expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr. Ali of Rockaway Group of Companies and Ms. Sunita of Sunita Travel Service for having confidence in the administration of cricket in Guyana.
The ECCB boss took the opportunity to thank them for their support and contribution especially in these trying times. He also assured that their timely investment will go a far way in the development of our youth cricketers on the East Coast of Demerara.
This competition will bowl off this Saturday and will see ten (10) teams competing for cash prizes, trophies and cricket gear for teams and players excelling during the tournament.
This tournament, which is expected to conclude on 28th May 2022, will be used to select the East Coast Demerara U17 team to participate in the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) tournament later on in preparation for the Regional U-17 expected to be held in July this year.
The winning team will take home $100,000 and a trophy while the runner-up will earn $50,000 and a trophy. Other outstanding players during the tournament will also be given prizes.
