SENIOR Magistrate Leron Daly, on Friday, released a businessman on $250,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to two firearm-related charges.
Rondy Blyden of Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Particulars of the charges allege that on April 4, 2022, at the Technical Services Unit (TSU), Police Headquarters, Eve Leary, Blyden had a Glock 19 pistol along with 49 rounds of 9×19 ammunition in his possession, when he was not a licensed firearm holder.
The case was adjourned until May 27, 2022.
According to police facts, Blyden allegedly used a forged firearm approval letter to purchase a shotgun from a security firm located in Georgetown. He was told to go to the Police Headquarters to uplift the shotgun.
Blyden then went to the officer-in-charge of the TSU arms stores and presented the forged document.
After perusing the letter, the officer discovered that it was forged and arrested Blyden. His motor car was searched and the Glock 19 pistol and 49 rounds of ammunition were found.
An investigation was carried out and it was discovered that Blyden had also forged an approval letter for the pistol.
