Action shifts to GFC today as City teams look to excel
CITY teams will be showcased today when play in the Annual Mayor’s Cup 9-a-side Inter-Ward/Village knockout football tournament shifts to the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground starting at 17:00hrs.
Leading the charge to make their mark are the impressive Sparta Boss who are down to battle the upset-minded Belle West Stars in the sixth scheduled game of the evening. Sparta, known for their tenacity and ability to dominate tournaments, will feature national footballer Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson, Eusi Phillips, Job Caesar, Ryan Hackett, Jeremy Garnett, Nicholas McArthur, Jermaine Junor, Sheldon Sheppard and Devon Charles.
Belle West will hope to spring an upset through the efforts of Andre Williams, Paul Singh, John Anthony, Andre Jose and Navin Derga among others.
However, the night’s action is set to open with Charlestown being led by Jamal Cozier, and Keron Solomon battling Club 45 who will be boosted by the likes of Steven King, Lakina King, Ray Stanton and Quacy Price among others.
Following on the pitch will be Campbellville versus Liliendaal with the former side having Lamar Lord, Jason Williams, Shane Jones, Marlon Bethel, Shane McBean and Ritchie Richards down to carry their fight.
Liliendaal will look to the skills of Deon Alfred, Akeel Pinero, Otto Jones, Rondell Peters, Lennox Young, Kellon Blue and Kelly Blue to negate Campbellville.
Mocha then challenge Annandale with Eon Mars, Cappel Daniels, Steffon Ramsay and Teon Jones in the Mocha line-up.
Bourda All Stars, featuring Deon Alfred, Lennox Cort, Raphael Edwards, Ravie Corts, Daniel Ross and Kevin Baptiste, will take on Kuru Kururu who will depend on Kevon Walker, Michael Charles, Christopher Alleyne, Sherwin Henry and Anthony Roberts to carry their fight.
Road Warriors face Agricola with Joel Yapp, Cecil Jackson, Jermaine Beckles, Darren Niles, Brando Solomon and Akel Clarke turning out for Road Warriors. Agricola will see Kacy John, Linden Pickett, Gordon Grant and Collis Samuels leading their charge. Four other games are scheduled, featuring the winners of the preceding games battling to see who will advance in the tournament.
These teams are battling for attractive cash prizes and the respective trophies with a first prize of $600 000, second prize $300 000, third $200 000 and fourth $100 000 on offer. Mid Atlantic Oil and Gas Company is the sponsor for the winning purse of $600 000.
