WENDSON Thomas, called ‘Dollius’, was freed of rape and sexual activity charges on Thursday after a jury returned a not-guilty verdict at his trial in the Sexual Offences Court of the Demerara High Court.

Thomas was on trial before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the offence which alleged that between March 1, 2019 and March 31, 2019, in the county of Essequibo, he engaged in sexual penetration with a child of 12 years.

The second charge alleged that Thomas, on March 21, 2019, engaged in sexual activity with the underage girl by kissing her on her lips.

The jury, after deliberating for almost two hours, found Thomas not guilty in both matters.

The state was represented by prosecutors, Nafeeza Baig and Muntaz Ali. Thomas was represented by attorney-at-law, Madan Kissoon.
