NEWLY-promoted senior officers of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) were on Thursday morning decorated with their badges of rank by Chief-of-Staff Brigadier Godfrey Bess and Branch Heads of the Force.

According to the GDF, the simple but very significant badging ceremony was held at the Officers’ Mess, during which event the officers were congratulated by their colleagues, and the newly-promoted Majors were officially welcomed to the Senior Officer Corps.

Brigadier Bess told the officers that their promotions were earned, and is also proof that Defence Headquarters has reposed its confidence in their abilities.
As has become the tradition, the spouses, relatives and children of the officers participated in the badging.

Brigadier Bess emphasised that given the current economic conditions, the security services will be called upon to be more resilient, and, to this end, he thanked the family members present in advance for their continued support.

“We will be called upon, given the changing environment, and I am almost certain that you will give them your support. We work hard, and we also value our families,” he said.
Lieutenant Colonel Julian Archer, the most senior newly-promoted officer, thanked the Chief-of-Staff, branch heads and other senior officers for the confidence reposed in him and the other promoted officers present. He urged his colleagues to corroborate this confidence.

He also lauded the support of family members, saying that, “Today, our promotion is also theirs.”
“Congratulations are extended to the newly-promoted senior officers by all the members of the Guyana Defence Force at the Guyana People’s Militia,” the GDF said in a facebook post.
