THE five-team Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) Volleyball League, set to commence today at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, has been postponed to a later date due to the spike in COVID-19 cases.

The three-month event was expected to run from January 18 to April 1 with runners-up of the 2021 Powerzone Championship, the Eagles Volleyball Club, rivals Castrol Strikers Volleyball Club, the Young Achievers Volleyball Club, the Guyana Defence Force Volleyball Club and the VenGuy Volleyball Club battling it out.

A new starting date has been announced.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Volleyball Federation recently short-listed two dozen male players to prepare under the watchful eyes of coaches, Devindra Samaroo and Levi Nedd.

The players will be training for a South American tournament to be held in Ecuador and to participate in a senior male academy, which will be spearheaded by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The players are Juan Valasques, Khemraj Singh, Jared Jhingree, Ronaldo Bobb, Devendra Latchman, Trevlon McRae, Adrien Moore, Kristoff Sheppard, Dequan Gray, Amari Joseph, Andre Jagnandan, Corwyn Richards, Shemroy Ross, Steffon Norah, Kris Mentore, Nicholas Khan, Vance Harding, Kirby Richards, Breyon Barnette, Lukris Brummel, Troy Dundas, Andre Williams, Daniel Joseph and Levi Nedd Jr.

The players will be informed as to when training will begin.
