Epic! The word used by the scores of spectators after witnessing Sparta Boss edging Bent Street 5 – 3 on penalty to win the Kashif and Shanghai/Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Futsal Championship.
Playing at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, a capacity crowd saw Sparta Boss claiming the tournament’s $1M first-place prize after the two sides ended regulation and extra time four goals apiece.
With the crowd on the edge of their seat before the first whistle, Clive Nobrega scored as Bent Street opened their account four minutes into the heated contest.
But the tournament’s eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP), Ryan Hackett pulled one back three minutes later with the scores level 1 – 1 at half time.
Hackett completed his double in the second half, however, William Europe scored late in the game to send the game into overtime.
Sparta Boss, behind their most skillful player, Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson took advantage in the extra time, but his side’s celebration was shortlived since Pernell Schultz netted twice to put Bent Street back up 3 – 4.

But in the closing seconds, Sheldon Shepherd pulled a late one to tie things up 4 – 4, forcing the game to be decided by kicks from the penalty spot.
Eusi Phillips and Jermaine Junor both scored for their respective sides, so did Jeremy Garrett and Schultz as the scores stood at 2 – 2.
While Curtez Kellman scored to put Sparta up 3 – 2, Colin Nelson was denied by Devon Charles.
Hackett then made it 4 – 2, then Daniel Wilson, with hopes of keeping his side alive scored for Bent Street.
But Shepherd put the game away for good when he slotted home from the ‘spot’ as pandemonium broke out in the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
For his exceptional performance which earned him the MVP trophy, Hackett went home with a motorcycle.
In the third place game, Gold is Money defeated Leopold Street 3-1 to pocket $250,000 while the latter collected $100,000.
