– Explosive final to bring the curtain down on K&S/GFF Futsal tourney
WITH the championship team taking home $1M, in the Kashif and Shanghai/Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Futsal tournament final, fireworks are expected when Sparta Boss and Bent Street clash at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall tonight.
While Sparta Boss reached the final with an easy 7-2 victory over Leopold Street, Bent Street had to come from behind to edge Gold is Money 4-3 in overtime.
Looking at the two finalists, it would be easy for local pundits to pick Sparta Boss as favourites and rightfully so.
Their star-studded line-up is a crowd-pleaser no matter the combination of players on the court. However, Bent Street should not be overlooked.
The team’s semi-finals victory over Gold is Money should put to rest any doubt of their ability to give Sparta Boss a ‘tackle’.
Over the years, Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson, one of Guyana’s most talented players, has transitioned to dominate football’s shortest format. But in this particular tournament, he has made way for other young and budding talents.
Depending on the opposition, Sparta Boss would turn to former National youth captain, Jeremey Garrett, along with the likes youthful players Curtez Kelman and Ryan Hackett.
Nicholas McArthur, Kelsie Benjamin and Job Caesar are the other young stars on the already loaded Sparta Boss team.
On the other side, Colin Nelson, Pernell Shultz, Daniel Wilson and Jermain Junor are the players leading the charge for Bent Street. With Clive Nobrega also in the line-up, the Wortmanville/Werk-en-Rust unit will be going for glory from the start.
Meanwhile, the third place game from 08:00hrs will set the best platform for an expected explosive night of futsal action.
Leopold Street will do battle against Gold is Money and with $250 000 up for grabs, just like the final, fans will certainly be entertained.
Organisers are encouraging patrons to come out early, since with the COVID-19 protocols activated, space in the venue will be limited. (Rawle Toney)
