A 22-year-old security guard, who allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint, was on Friday granted $150,000 bail by City Magistrate Rondell Weever.
Reon Joseph, of Wren Avenue, South Ruimveldt appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, and denied the charge, which alleged that on December 21, 2021, at Duncan Street, Campbellville, while being in the company of another and armed with a gun, he robbed Dawn Jeffery of a gold chain, bag, makeup set and a cell phone, along with other items totalling $247,000.
According to the police facts, the victim was standing on the road when a white motorcar bearing licence plate number PVV 7709, which was driven by Joseph, stopped in front of her. A man exited the vehicle and pointed a firearm at her. She was then relieved of the articles mentioned in the charge. and the gunman fled in the waiting motorcar.
The police were summoned, and managed to trail Joseph to his Wren Avenue home. The motorcar was searched, but only $5,000 was found.
Following his arrest, he was positively pointed out by the victim. She also gave the police the description of the other robber and another man, who was also in the motorcar at the time of the robbery.
Despite objections raised by the police prosecutor, Magistrate Weever released Joseph on $150,000 bail, and adjourned the matter until January 28, 2022.
