GUYANESE-born cricketers Zamal Khan, Randall Wilson and Telston Johnson proved instrumental for their club side Galaxy CC against fellow pro-Guyanese side Meten-Meer-Zorg CC in the semi-final of the New York National Cricket League, Rockaway Group T20 Cup, which was played recently at the Baisley Pond Park in Queens.
Inserted to bat, Galaxy CC, led by former US U19 cricketer Wilson and Yudesh Bissnauth, added 56 runs for the opening wicket from 6.6 overs before the latter was caught for 35. His innings, which included three sixes, came off of 23 balls.
After Dayanand Roopnarine lost his wicket for two runs, Khan a former West Indies U19 cricketer, joined Wilson and the two added 108 runs for the fourth wicket.
Khan was ultra-aggressive as he smacked six fours and four sixes off 35 balls for a score of 71. Wilson lost his wicket three balls before the close of the innings. They helped to push the score to 188-4.
The opener also finished with 71 (4×4, 2×6), but he made it from 51 balls.
Looknauth Chinkoo, who got the wickets of Bissnauth and Roopnarine, finished with 2-27 from four overs.
In reply, former Essequibo bowler Johnson walked through the middle order to finish with 4-32 from his four overs. Fellow opening bowler Hemendra Ramdihal and Shiv Raghubar supported with two wickets each, while Khan finished with 1-8 from 1.4 overs.
For Meten-Meer-Zorg, opener Troy Mars finished with an innings-high 31 from 32 balls, while Kelvin Shewprasad also had a start with 26 runs from 23 balls, but batting proved a difficult task, which resulted in the side being bowled out for 134 in 18.4 overs.
With the victory, Galaxy will now meet Majestics CC in the final of the event on Sunday, October 7.
