Trio accused of ‘ganja’ trafficking granted bail

THREE men, who were recently arrested by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) for trafficking cannabis , were on Monday released on $120,000 bail each by Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus

Leon Bishop, a 35-year-old labourer of Duncan Street, Newtown, Kitty; Abinash Inshanally called Victor, a 29-year-old welder of l Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara and Kevin Simpson, a 35-year-old vendor of 8th Street, Diamond, all appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Bishop pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on October 29, at Campbell Avenue, Campbellville, Georgetown, he had 46.3 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

According to details of the charge presented by police prosecutor Richard Harris, Bishop was arrested by CANU ranks during a raid. The ranks allegedly saw Bishop standing in a yard and acting in a suspicious manner. He was searched and ziplock bags containing cannabis were allegedly found in his pants pocket.

Meanwhile, the charge against Inshanally and Simpson alleged that on October 29, at 8 Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD, they had 47.9 grams of cannabis in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.

According to Harris, the accused were arrested during a CANU raid at 8th Street, Diamond Housing Scheme. The men were allegedly intercepted with a quantity of small ziplock bags containing 47.9 grams of cannabis.

The magistrate placed the men on $120,000 bail each and adjourned their matters until December 13.
