A 12-member mixed jury, on Monday, found two former police constables guilty of raping a woman in 2018, when she went to report a matter at the Turkeyen Police Station.
Delon Chapman and Leon Ashby, were on trial before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow in the Sexual Offences Court of the Demerara High Court.
The jury, after deliberating for two hours, returned with a unanimous guilty verdict.
The case against the men was that, on January 1, 2018, in the County of Demerara, they engaged in sexual penetration with the woman.
Sentencing was deferred until October 14, pending the presentation of a probation report.
The state was represented by Prosecutor Nafeeza Baig while attorney-at-law Ravindra Mohabir represented the duo.
According to reports, on the day in question, the victim went to the police station to file a report. While there, she made a request to use the washroom and was later taken there by Chapman.
While using the washroom she was attacked by Chapman and Ashby, who took her into a room with a mattress and raped her.
The matter was reported to the police and the two men were later arrested and charged.
