IN keeping with the Catholic Mission, the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, on Tuesday received its ISO 9001 quality management system certificate.
Speaking at a simple yet significant ceremony held at the hospital’s Parade Street, Kingston, location, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Enoch Gaskin, noted that the certification comes as a great achievement.

“When this hospital was founded some 76 years ago, the override intent was and is now the delivery of quality medical care to all with distinction,” he said adding:

“We provide this quality care being mindful of our spiritual obligation to do so. The desire to consistently provide medical care has laid the path for today’s significant undertaking.”

He noted that the hospital pursued the certification in keeping with its mandate to provide the best and quality care to its patients and clients.
“Our desire to guarantee consistent outcomes require that all our processes and procedures be documented with documentation that is subject to implemented audit periodically. All our clients can be reassured that the care provided to them confirms to the best standard.”

The CEO noted that the achievement will not only benefit the hospital’s clientele but also its staff.
“All of our employs are ensured that they will be properly trained and certified to perform the task required of them.”

Meanwhile, the hospital’s Board of Director, Carlton John, noted that both the staff and directors have worked diligently over the past two years to ensure continuous quality service and care to patients as is mandated in the mission statement.
He added that the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital has invested heavily to meet the demands of the industry by pursuing ISO 9001:2015 certification among other initiatives.

The company, he said, continues to develop its range of products and services to meet the continued needs of patients accessing quality care at the institution.

“We believe that every customer, whether you are from overseas coming through the door, with an appointment, coming to our ER, coming to our outpatient, you are as important to us as every other,” the director said.

Further, he added: “This is about preparing ourselves for the future and making sure that we are focused on consumer and customer centric.”
Seventy-six years ago in September 1945, the hospital opened its doors to patient care along with a school of nursing.

What began mainly as a maternity hospital and a small surgical unit, has expanded, over the past seven decades to include pediatrics, orthopedics, neurosurgery, gastroenterology laparoscopic surgery, cosmetic surgery, industrial medicine, audiometry tests, hemodialysis, cardiology services and linkages to international insurances through MoU’s, supporting oil and gas medical needs.

In keeping with the Catholic Mission, Mercy Resident Care, a geriatric home, was commissioned in 2017. It houses thirty-three residents. This home has also been ISO 9001:2015 certified.
