THE Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Charles Ramson Jr and the National Sports Commission (NSC) extend sincere condolences to Olympian, Chelsea Edghill, and family on the passing of her father, Godfrey Edghill.

The 62-year-old died on Monday evening, leaving behind his wife — Deirdre Baynes-Edghill — and three children.

A release from the NSC said they’re cognisant of the role the senior Edghill played in guiding Chelsea to this present juncture where she is considered one of the best table tennis players in the Caribbean, Central and South America.

The NSC has postponed a dinner for the country’s Olympians and the CAC bodybuilders and powerlifters, that was planned for this Friday at the Mirage Banquet Hall as a mark of respect.
Director of Sports, Steve Ninvalle, has reached out to Edghill in relation to how the NSC can assist at this time.

Edghill, at a press conference upon her return to Guyana from Portugal this year, spoke profoundly of how her parents bankrolled her entire Table Tennis career in the absence of adequate government and corporate support over the years.

Edghill became Guyana’s and the English-speaking Caribbean’s first table tennis player at the Olympics when she competed at the 32nd Olympiad in Tokyo, Japan.
