THE Ministry of health, on Tuesday, reported that three more individuals have died after contracting COVID-19.
The ministry, in a statement, said each person was admitted to medical institutions with COVID-19 symptoms but died while receiving care.
The victims are a 54-year-old woman from Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), a 63-year-old woman from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) and a 66-year-old man, also from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Based on available statistics, the latest deaths took the country’s overall COVID-19 death toll to 564.
Meanwhile, 81 new infections were recorded from 2,071 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases since March, 2020, to 23,075. New infections were recorded in Regions One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six and Nine.
Of the new cases, there are 15 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, while 77 patients are in institutional isolation, 691 are isolated at home and five persons are in institutional quarantine. To date, 21,728 persons have recovered from the virus.
All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six-foot physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
