ANDREW Khan who allegedly snatched a cellphone from a woman as she was attempting to cross the road, on Wednesday, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Khan denied that he, on Saturday, April 26, 2021, at Regent Street, Georgetown, robbed Darshanie Persaud of one Samsung Galaxy A71 cellular phone valued at $116,000.
It is alleged that, on the day in question, about 15:15 hours, Persaud was with her father in a cellular store at Regent Street, Georgetown. She then left the store to join her mother and sister who were standing on the opposite side of the said street.
While attempting to cross the road, Khan, who came from an eastern direction on a pedal cycle, grabbed onto her right arm and relieved her of her cellular phone.
The woman immediately alerted her father who, while chasing after him, alerted two police ranks who were nearby. Khan was apprehended and the cellular phone was reportedly recovered in his possession.
The matter was adjourned until Wednesday, July 14, 2021.
